I asked for the Stop button to stay disabled until the trader made a choice.
This came up while working on how trading robots stop in XTester Studio. Stopping the program leaves another question: what should happen to the orders and position it already has on the exchange?
I wanted that answered explicitly, with no option selected in advance. Deleting a robot also needs a separate decision about its orders and position. Removing it from a list doesn't answer either question.
There was one detail I wanted to pin down: if the trader chooses to leave everything in place, the strategy's shutdown code must not send new orders on its way out. Otherwise, the program could change the very things the trader had asked it to leave alone.
The stop dialog and that restriction are merged and tested. Live trading acceptance is still pending.
A button labelled Stop looks simple. Deciding exactly what it stops took more work.
