The UKâs Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has released new guidance outlining when cryptoasset activities will fall under its upcoming regulatory framework.
The guidance covers key areas of the crypto industry, including stablecoin related activities, crypto trading platforms, custody and safeguarding, arranging crypto transactions, and staking services.
đč Stablecoins: The FCAâs wider framework includes requirements covering backing assets, safeguarding, redemption and disclosures for qualifying stablecoin issuers.
đč Trading: Cryptoasset trading platforms and intermediaries will face specific regulatory requirements under the new regime.
đč Custody: Firms safeguarding customersâ cryptoassets will be subject to rules designed to strengthen the protection and management of client assets.
đč Staking: Staking services are also included within the activities that may require FCA authorization.
The FCA says firms carrying out regulated crypto activities will need to assess whether they require authorization under the new framework. Existing registrations will not automatically convert into the new authorization.
