President Donald Trump has once again turned up the pressure on the Federal Reserve, calling for the United States to have the lowest interest rates in the world. With the Fedâs September 15â16 meeting just around the corner, his latest comments have added another layer of uncertainty to an already sensitive financial market.
Speaking to reporters, Trump argued that the U.S. should not be paying higher interest rates than other countries. He also defended his economic understanding, saying, âI know more about formulas than anybody.â His message is clear: he wants borrowing costs to come down and believes lower rates would strengthen the American economy.
But the Federal Reserve is facing a completely different challenge.
Recent inflation data has renewed concerns that price pressures are not cooling fast enough. August CPI rose 3.4% year over year, while core inflation increased 0.3% month over month. These figures have strengthened expectations for a possible rate hike at this weekâs meeting, although the final decision remains uncertain.
đ„ WHY THIS MATTERS FOR BITCOIN
Interest rates play a major role in global liquidity and investor risk appetite. When rates rise, borrowing becomes more expensive, the dollar can strengthen, and investors may reduce exposure to riskier assets such as cryptocurrencies.
A surprise rate hike could therefore trigger short-term selling pressure across the crypto market, with $BTC potentially facing increased volatility and downside risk.
On the other hand, if the Fed keeps rates unchanged or signals a more dovish approach, markets could interpret it as a positive liquidity development. Bitcoin and other risk assets may benefit from renewed optimism, especially if traders begin pricing in future rate cuts.
â ïž THE BIGGEST RISK: MARKET EXPECTATIONS
The reaction will not depend only on the rate decision. Fed Chair Kevin Warshâs statement, future policy guidance, and inflation outlook could be even more important.
If the Fed hikes but signals that further increases are unlikely, Bitcoin could recover quickly. If the Fed surprises markets with a more aggressive stance, the selling pressure could intensify.
