What This Means More frequent blocks: Targets 5 slots per second (vs. 2.5 at the original 400 ms). Throughput stays roughly the same: Per-block compute units are scaled down proportionally (to ~30 million at 200 ms, from 37.5 million at 250 ms) so overall processing capacity does not jump. Benefits: Lower latency for confirmations, fresher state for trading/DeFi apps, tighter spreads for market makers, and a shorter leader monopoly window (improving censorship resistance/fairness). Epochs (fixed at 432,000 slots) will shorten to ~24 hours. Trade-offs: Validators vote more frequently (higher operational load), blockhash expiration windows shrink (~40 seconds wall-clock), and timing margins are tighter.
