With August core CPI coming in warm at 0.3% month-over-month and the odds of a 25 basis point hike sitting close to 90%, the Fed has practically been backed into a corner.

Is this the start of a new hiking cycle or just a one-off?
In my view, this is strictly a tactical, one-off adjustment. The Federal Reserve simply wants to make sure inflation expectations stay pinned down and sticky service costs do not bounce back. They will likely talk tough during the press conference to keep markets disciplined, but the broader economy cannot support an extended series of rate increases right now.

How will markets react?
Bitcoin: In the short term, expect choppy downward pressure. A rate hike supports the dollar and pulls liquidity away from speculative assets, meaning we could see quick flushes to sweep key support zones before genuine spot buying steps back in.
Tech stocks: Bearish. Higher borrowing costs hurt valuation multiples, particularly for high-flying growth and tech stocks that rely on cheap capital.
Gold: Resilient and slightly bullish. Although higher bond yields usually hurt metals, strong central bank buying and inflation hedging should keep a strong floor under gold dips.

My trading plan:
I am de-risking by cutting down on high-leverage futures positions to avoid getting chopped up by FOMC volatility wicks. Instead, I am laddering gradual spot buy orders for Bitcoin across strong support levels and parking my spare liquidity in USDT flexible earn so I am ready to scoop up any post-announcement bargains.
