BREAKING: 🇺🇸 President Trump is set to make a “huge” announcement today at 5:00 PM ET.
Sources are speculating it could involve plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and a possible new peace deal with Iran. Markets could see major volatility if confirmed.
Spent the last few days poking around @BabylonLabs_io charts and something kept bugging me.
$BABY price has been sliding over the past week down mid-single digits depending on the exchange while the BTC side of the protocol hasn't budged much at all. Vault TVL is still sitting north of $5.5B, staked BTC holding steady in the mid-50k range.
So you've got two halves of the same protocol telling completely different stories: the token market looks nervous, but the actual security layer the BTC sitting in vaults isn't reacting to any of it.
That's the part that got me. #baby governs the chain, pays gas, gets staked alongside BTC in the dual-staking setup you'd think price would track vault behavior at least loosely. Instead it's moving more like a random low-cap alt than something backed by billions in locked Bitcoin. Volume's still there, just not much conviction behind it either way.
Honestly I went in assuming the recent unlock was the whole explanation for the weakness, and it's probably part of it. But vault flows staying completely flat through a week of token softness is the bit I can't fully explain. Supply pressure accounts for selling. It doesn't account for stakers just... not reacting.
Not sure yet if that's stakers being unbothered or just not watching closely. Anyone seeing movement in finality provider delegations this week, or is it quiet on that front too?
$BTC has seen a sharp correction and is now trading just above a key support zone. Buyers are attempting to defend the $63.1K level, but confirmation is still needed. A successful hold could trigger a relief rally, while losing support may invite further downside.
$ETH is showing strength above the $1,912 support after rejecting from the $1,967 resistance zone. If buyers continue defending this level, another breakout attempt toward $2,000 could be next.
$BTC Holding Trend Support Bulls Eyeing Another Push
$BTC is defending its rising 4H trendline after the recent pullback. As long as buyers keep price above the $64.4K area, the bullish structure remains intact and another move toward resistance could follow.
Something about @BabylonLabs_io slashing numbers felt off, so I went and checked myself. $BABY / #baby 56,853 BTC locked across the protocol's vaults (~$5.6B), spread over 250+ finality providers, and as far as I can tell from the public dashboards zero recorded slashing events since mainnet went live.
That's the part that got me thinking. The whole design leans on EOTS if a finality provider double-signs, their key gets mathematically exposed and a third of delegated BTC can be burned. It's elegant on paper.
But watching real activity, the mechanism looks less like an active enforcement tool and more like a deterrent that's just... sitting there, untested at scale.
Is that a sign the incentive design is actually working FPs behaving because the penalty is real and visible? Or is it too early to read anything into it, since most delegation still concentrates around a handful of large, reputationally-staked providers who have the least reason to misbehave? I genuinely don't know which explanation holds more weight yet.
Also caught that BABY's next scheduled unlock (~Aug 10, ~136M tokens) is coming up, which makes me wonder if unbonding requests start ticking up beforehand. Haven't confirmed that pattern yet though.
Curious if anyone's tracked slashing (or near-slashing) activity on a specific FP has it ever actually been triggered anywhere in the BSN set?
