I've been around crypto long enough to know that not every new narrative deserves attention. I've seen projects make big promises, attract a crowd, and slowly disappear when the hype fades.

But Kite has me curious for a different reason.

Think about it for a moment. What happens when AI agents need to pay for the tools and services they use? They can't rely on humans to approve every little payment forever. At some point, they need a way to handle transactions themselves, and that's where things get interesting.

What I like about Kite Passport is the idea of giving agents freedom without handing them unlimited access to money. Owners can approve spending sessions, set budgets, limit individual transactions, and decide when that permission expires. The x402 payment system also gives agents a way to pay for API access programmatically.

Of course, having the technology is one thing. Getting developers to use it and making people comfortable letting software spend their money is another challenge entirely.

I've learned not to judge a project by how good its story sounds. I want to see whether people actually use it when the excitement dies down.

I'm still watching Kite, and I'm not ready to jump to conclusions. But the problem it's trying to solve is real.

Maybe the bigger question isn't whether AI agents will make payments, but whether we can trust them to do it right.
