El Salvador Opposition Nominates 2027 Candidates Opposing Bukele Bitcoin Strategy
On July 28, El Salvador's ARENA and FMLN nominated candidates for the February 2027 presidential election, and both oppose President Bukele's Bitcoin strategy. El Salvador revoked Bitcoin's legal tender status in February 2025 after a $1.4 billion IMF loan agreement. The government still plans to buy about 1 Bitcoin daily and held about 7,730 BTC as of July 27.
