Hong Kong has enacted legislation requiring crypto exchanges and other covered service providers to collect customer information and transaction records for taxation from 2027. The government said automatic information exchanges with overseas tax authorities will start in 2028. The law implements the OECD's Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework without making customer information public. Hong Kong's secretary for financial services and the treasury, Christopher Hui, said the requirements would help counter cross-border tax evasion.
