Crypto in 2014: "We're going to replace the banks."

Crypto in 2026: "Please verify your identity to withdraw your stablecoin."

DigiByte didn't forget why we started.

I think there's a deeper question here.

If you own crypto but a centralized platform can freeze your account or prevent you from withdrawing, how much financial freedom do you actually have?

But let's be fair: self-custody also comes with risks, and not everyone wants the responsibility of managing their own keys.

So where should we draw the line?

Should crypto prioritize complete financial sovereignty, or convenience and protection for ordinary users?

Can we realistically have both?
