Chen Guangyu, a 17-year-old former Kimi researcher, has reportedly joined Discovery Loop, the AI company founded by former Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean. According to ChainCatcher, the anonymous account Arfur Grok, which tracks Silicon Valley AI talent moves, disclosed the news on Oct. 20. Chen announced his departure from Kimi five days earlier and had worked on research into the Attention Residuals architecture and development of Kimi K3.
Founded in August this year by Dean and three other former Google employees, Discovery Loop plans to have AI generate research hypotheses, run thousands of experiments in parallel and adjust its approach based on the results. The company is initially focused on AI model development, with plans to expand into healthcare, materials and energy. Alphabet, Google's parent company, is among its founding investors, and Discovery Loop has not launched a public product. Business Insider reported in September that the company was seeking funding at a valuation of about $50 billion.
Silicon Valley investor Deedy Das previously mentioned a 17-year-old who received five AI job offers worth millions of dollars each. Some speculated that the person was Chen, but Das has never publicly identified the individual.
