India is considering developing a hardware device to serve as a security control layer between local users and satellite internet providers such as Starlink, Elon Musk’s service. According to Sina Finance, citing media reports based on anonymous sources, the device could help the Indian government better control internet traffic handled by foreign satellite companies and could be deployed at satellite ground stations or user terminals. The proposal stems from national security concerns. Several countries have complained about Starlink, and Ukraine recently said restrictions on the service’s functionality had hindered its military operations.
