The U.S. Department of Homeland Security ordered civilian government agencies on Monday to remove DeepSeek products and third-party services built on DeepSeek from government computer systems. DHS also barred new purchases. DHS warned that government employees or vendors using the models may transfer sensitive data to China and could generate actionable intelligence on U.S. persons or agencies. DeepSeek's open-source model can run locally or through providers outside China, although DeepSeek hosts its own service on servers in China. The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately comment.
