Data from the Binance platform indicates a notable decline in Bitcoin futures open interest, which stood at approximately $8.91 billion, reaching its lowest level in two months, while Bitcoin was trading near $81,000.
This decline reflects a reduction in the total value of open positions in the derivatives market compared with levels recorded in recent weeks, indicating lower open exposure among futures traders.
The data shows that open interest has experienced notable fluctuations recently, rising at several stages alongside strong movements in Bitcoin’s price before entering a downward trend that pushed it to lower levels. This comes after open interest previously exceeded $10 billion, highlighting the scale of the current decline.
A decline in open interest is an important factor when assessing derivatives market activity, as it generally indicates a reduction in the number of active positions, whether long or short. However, a decline in open interest does not, by itself, represent a bullish or bearish signal; rather, it primarily reflects a reduction in the volume of open positions.
