Russia's biggest bank just walked into crypto — through the front door.
Sberbank has been added to the Bank of Russia's register of crypto exchange operators, after joining the digital depository register earlier this month. The bank is already testing BTC, ETH and USDT trading inside its app, and plans to roll out its first crypto products to all clients on December 1, using the apps customers already know.
The catch: crypto payments inside Russia stay banned, and from July 2027 trades must go through registered intermediaries. This is regulation-first adoption — access expands, but inside a fenced yard.
