🚹 Hedera’s AI Agent Accounts Are Announced—but Mainnet Is Still Pending

Hedera introduced Agent Accounts, a framework for AI agents to make payments under user-defined on-chain rules without accessing private keys.

LIVE / CONFIRMED: Hedera announced Agent Accounts on October 8. Users can set spending limits and approved merchants on-chain, while private keys stay in the user’s wallet.

But here’s the catch: this is not a live mainnet product yet. Hedera’s roadmap targets limited partner validation on testnet in Q4 2026, public testnet access in Q1 2027, and mainnet availability in Q2 2027—subject to security review and legal sign-off.

There’s one detail worth watching: HBAR usage. Agent Accounts could eventually settle payments in HBAR, but that does not create guaranteed demand until developers and users actually deploy and fund agents.

The takeaway: Hedera is building an AI-payments use case, but investors should separate the announcement from a launched mainnet feature.
