🚹 SpaceX wants to become your mobile carrier. T-Mobile shares fell 9.1%.

The twist? The spectrum behind this move used to belong to T-Mobile.

THE MARKET FILE — THE MOBILE SHAKE-UP
October 9, 2026

Here’s the chain:

1ïžâƒŁ In August, Grain Management acquired T-Mobile’s nationwide 800 MHz spectrum portfolio.

2ïžâƒŁ On October 8, Grain announced an agreement to sell that portfolio to SpaceX, subject to FCC approval and other closing conditions.

3ïžâƒŁ On Friday, Reuters reported these early-trading declines:
‱ T-Mobile: −9.1%
‱ AT&T: −7.4%
‱ Verizon: −5.9%

Those are intraday snapshots, not closing returns.

WHY THIS MATTERS:
Grain says the deal would support Starlink Mobile reaching customers from both the ground and space.

My read: SpaceX’s mobile ambitions could eventually reach something very ordinary—your monthly phone bill.

If it can turn that infrastructure into competitive service, customers could gain another choice and incumbent carriers could face pressure.

But spectrum is an ingredient. Approval, deployment, service quality and profitable customer acquisition still matter.

And there’s another twist: Reuters reported tower operators rising as investors anticipated demand for terrestrial infrastructure.

An industry disruption can hurt one business model while creating demand for another.

WHAT I’M WATCHING:
Can SpaceX turn this agreement into a working network—and recurring revenue that justifies the cost?

Would you switch your phone plan to Starlink Mobile? What would it need to offer: a lower bill, better coverage or proven reliability?
