đ Ethereumâs New Security Idea Could Stop a Bad Transaction Before It Settles
The Ethereum Foundation is exploring a way for transactions to check their actual outcomeânot just what a user thought they signed.
RESEARCH / PROPOSED: In an October 5 post, the Foundation described ânative transaction assertionsâ as one possible defense against blind signing and unexpected transaction results.
In simple terms, a transaction could include a ruleâsuch as âreceive at least this muchâ or âdonât change this accountâs control settings.â If the final result breaks the rule, the transactionâs actions would revert.
But this is not live on Ethereum. The Foundation discusses EIP-7906 as one possible design; it is âConsidered for Inclusion,â not confirmed for an upgrade.
Thereâs also a catch: wallets or protocols would need to include and enforce the right assertions. A poorly chosen ruleâor no rule at allâwould not protect the user.
The takeaway: Ethereum is researching a stronger safety check for transaction outcomes, but this remains a design-stage idea, not a feature users can rely on today.
