Zcashâs NU7 upgrade is now live on public testnet, bringing a major change: target block time drops from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.
That means NU7 is designed to make confirmations significantly faster, while also introducing a Network Sustainability Mechanism that redirects part of transaction fees toward future block rewards.
But hereâs the key detail:
NU7 is not on Zcash mainnet yet.
The current plan is to review testnet results before setting the final mainnet activation. A draft deployment specification currently targets October 20 for setting the mainnet activation height, while developers have been targeting November 5 for the upgrade.
So this is a real milestone â but itâs still a test.
ZEC now has to prove NU7 works under real network conditions.
