South Korean police have opened a formal investigation into recent hacking attacks on financial institutions and formed a 28-member task force to handle the case. According to Sina Finance, the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency said on the 6th that, after confirming the objective facts, it formally filed the case on suspicion of violating the Information and Communications Network Act.
Police also designated the National Police Agency's cyberterrorism investigation unit as the special task force for the case and are considering whether to report it to the Major Crime Investigation Division. According to Sina Finance, seven financial companies, including Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Hana Bank, recently suffered hacking attacks, and multiple signs suggested the same attacker used artificial intelligence (AI) in the attacks.
