Three U.S. officials said U.S. President Donald Trump’s core Cabinet members met behind closed doors for several hours at Camp David on Friday to discuss response options for the war in Iran and the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen. According to Sina Finance, the Trump administration did not publicly announce the unusual meeting.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the Camp David meeting during a press gaggle on Monday before leaving for Europe. He said the team had been meeting on long-term strategic planning and similar issues, adding that the gathering was simply held in a location with fewer distractions.
A related official said Vice President Vance chaired the meeting. Other attendees included Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
One official said there were some decisions made, or at least extensive discussion, on the Middle East crisis. The White House declined to comment.
Trump is considering restarting large-scale military action in Iran as talks remain deadlocked. He said on Thursday that he now had to make a choice: either Iran signs a deal or the deal is gone.
Saudi Arabia has also asked Trump to join its planned offensive against the Houthis in Yemen and has urged the U.S. president to carry out airstrikes. Trump currently leans toward refusing, but U.S. officials said he could change his mind.
