According to CNBC, a watchdog report released Wednesday found no basis for criminal charges over the Federal Reserve's costly headquarters renovations, even as President Donald Trump considers whether to move against as many as three of the central bank's seven board members. The report said construction costs rose by about $1 billion during the renovation of the Fed's Washington office space, but it found no evidence of administrative misconduct or anything warranting a criminal referral. Trump has also been involved in disputes with governors Lisa Cook and Michael Barr, and recent court rulings suggest any effort to remove them would face major legal hurdles. The Fed is scheduled to announce its next interest-rate decision on Oct. 28, days before the Nov. 3 midterm election, while the administration faces a deadline in the Cook case shortly after the vote.
