$766.5M stolen in September, by PeckShield's count. worst month of 2026

sounds like a wave. it's mostly two names

🔾 Bitget: about $387.5M, compromised third-party security software let the attacker in
🔾 Liquid: close to 4,000 $BTC
, a consensus bug in the code since April 2018. 3,400 BTC came back the next day

CertiK counts a bit higher: $768.4M across 97 incidents

nobody phished a seed phrase. one came in through security software, the other through a years-old bug

that's the part I can't shrug off. no user checklist covers your exchange's security vendor

Bitget says token, fiat and P2P withdrawals resume at 08:00 UTC on Oct. 2. my own balance there still hasn't left, I'll write here what happens with it, follow if you want to see how that ends
