South Korea's newborn count rose 11.1% year over year in July, marking a 25th consecutive month of growth. According to Sina Finance, government data showed the total number of newborns reached 24,275, up from 21,854 a year earlier, the highest July figure since 2019. The total fertility rate climbed to 0.89 from 0.81 a year earlier, still well below the 2.1 level needed to keep the population stable without immigration.

Births have been rising since July 2024. According to Sina Finance, newborns totaled 170,079 in the January-July period, up 14.7% from a year earlier and the highest for that period since 2019. The recent rebound was attributed to more marriages, a larger population in their 30s, and more positive attitudes toward having children.

According to Sina Finance, marriage registrations in July rose 9.3% year over year to 22,282 couples, while divorce registrations fell 0.8% to 7,764. Deaths increased 3% to 28,921, leaving a natural population decline of 4,647.
