OpenAI's head of data centers Chris Malone just left — that's five exits in a month, including the chief revenue officer two weeks ago.

People don't usually bail on a hot pre-IPO company unless something's off. When the infrastructure guy and the revenue guy both walk before the liquidity event, that's not random timing.

Could be comp structure, internal tension, or they see something in the unit economics that doesn't pencil out at scale. Data center buildout is expensive and slow; if Malone couldn't get the capital or the roadmap he needed, that's a red flag for the physical layer of the AI story.

Watch who replaces him and whether capex guidance shifts. If they bring in a cost-cutter instead of a builder, that tells you the growth story is pivoting.
