U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States urgently needs aluminum and that most of its supply comes from Canada. According to ChainCatcher, Trump plans to build an aluminum plant in Oklahoma as tensions rise over the U.S.-Canada trade dispute and the 50% metals tariff issue.

More than half of the aluminum consumed in the United States is produced in Canada. The two sides had previously come close to an agreement to cut aluminum tariffs in half, but the proposal faced opposition from the U.S. steel and aluminum industries.
