Something that actually happened to me on maybe my fourth or fifth P2P trade, sharing it because that one small moment taught me more than any list of tips ever could.

I was buying, already had the payment instructions open, standing in line somewhere and trying to get it done before my turn came up. I opened my banking app, typed in the amount, and had my thumb basically over the confirm button. In my head the trade was already finished, I was just going through the motions.

Something made me stop and reread the account name on the order one more time before sending, just a habit I had built from being told to always double check. The saved name my banking app autofilled did not quite match the name shown on the order screen, off by a single letter, the kind of thing you would easily miss if you were moving fast and not really looking closely.

Turned out to be nothing dramatic. I had simply tapped the wrong saved recipient in my own banking app, my own mistake, not the seller's. But that five second pause before sending is the entire lesson. Nothing went wrong that day, and the reason nothing went wrong is that I had already built in a pause before every transfer, not because I happened to get lucky in the moment.

Since then it is a fixed step for me every single time, no exceptions even when I am in a hurry or the line is moving. Open the app, read the name twice, confirm the amount, then pay. It costs maybe five extra seconds and it has already paid for itself more than once since that day.

If you trade P2P often enough, eventually something will feel slightly off for a second, even if it turns out to be nothing at all. That feeling is always worth listening to, even when you are almost certainly just moving too fast.
