⚡️ Pavel Durov: "France Is Not a Free Country"
The founder of Telegram has issued a scathing response to today’s police raids on X’s (formerly Twitter) Paris office. According to Durov, France has become the only nation systematically targeting platforms that champion free speech—citing the legal pressure on Telegram, X, and TikTok.
What Happened?
French authorities and cyber-investigation units raided the X office as part of an ongoing probe into Elon Musk’s platform and the Grok AI. Durov, who faced his own high-profile arrest in France back in 2024, didn't hold back:
"France is the only country in the world that criminally prosecutes all social networks that give people some degree of freedom. Make no mistake: this is not a free country."
Why Does This Matter for Crypto?
Increasing state pressure on decentralized and open platforms is a major red flag for the Web3 industry. When regulators shift from oversight to raids, the importance of privacy and data sovereignty becomes the #1 priority.
Notably, Durov also recently doubled down on his criticism of WhatsApp, stating that users are highly naive to believe its security claims in 2026.
