🌀 Roman Storm’s Tornado Cash retrial has been pushed to April 2027.

A U.S. federal judge has scheduled the retrial of Roman Storm, co-founder and developer of Tornado Cash, for April 26, 2027, with the final pretrial conference set for April 20.

Storm was convicted in August 2025 on one count related to operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, while the jury could not reach a verdict on the more serious money-laundering and sanctions-evasion charges.

Those unresolved charges are now heading toward another trial.

Storm is also seeking immunity, arguing that the case raises broader questions about whether developers should be held criminally responsible for software they helped create.

And that’s what makes this case much bigger than Tornado Cash.

If writing open-source financial software can potentially create criminal liability years later, where exactly does the line between developer and operator get drawn?
