Bitcoin has recently come under pressure after briefly rising above $82,000 earlier in September 2026. It then dropped back below the important $80,000 level, trading around the high-$70,000s. The decline happened as investors became more cautious about the direction of the U.S. economy and, especially, what the Federal Reserve (Fed) might do with interest rates.

One of the major reasons behind the decline was stronger-than-expected U.S. employment data. The U.S. economy added around 162,000 jobs in August, significantly more than the roughly 55,000–56,000 jobs economists had expected. Normally, strong employment is considered good news because it suggests that the economy is healthy. However, for financial markets, including crypto, strong economic data can sometimes have the opposite short-term effect because it gives the Federal Reserve more reason to keep monetary policy tight or even consider raising interest rates.
