Here’s what the data actually says.

The facts: Binance’s SAFU wallet now holds about 7,500 BTC (~$580M), down from 15,000 BTC in February. That’s below the $800M level that normally triggers a top-up.

The context: Binance said on Oct 31 that it would use part of SAFU, along with corporate reserves and a portion of its futures insurance fund, to cover the $6.3B hack. It pledged to restore SAFU to about $1B, but hasn’t given a timeline.

What’s reassuring:

✅ Binance says ~95% of stolen assets have been replaced.

✅ Its zero-knowledge reserve proof for 10 major tokens shows them backed at least 1:1.

What’s still unclear:

❓ When will SAFU be refilled? Its top-up rule covers BTC price drops, not spending.

❓ How much of the futures insurance fund was used?

❓ Outflow estimates vary ($4.7B to $5B+), and Binance disputes some as internal transfers.

What I’m watching: the refill timeline and today’s second reserve snapshot, which covers more tokens.

The fund did what it was built for, but the refill matters. Keep only what you actively trade on any exchange.
