Binance’s preliminary investigation indicates that the recent security incident may have originated from a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop. This potentially allowed an attacker to access a service container and initiate unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
Key Investigation Findings:
No evidence of any wallet private key leakage has been found so far.
The estimated total impact is approximately $6.3 BILLION.
Around $3 BILLION in affected assets has reportedly been frozen on-chain.
Binance has committed to covering all losses through its SAFU fund and company funds.
User funds remain safe, according to Binance.
Immediate Security Measures:
Deposits and withdrawals have been temporarily suspended during security checks.
