$SHIB $BTC

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an Ethereum-based cryptocurrency that began as a community-driven meme token in 2020 and has since developed into an ecosystem including ShibaSwap, Shibarium, and related tokens. Its identity remains strongly tied to internet culture and the Shiba Inu “Doge” meme.

## What Is SHIB?

SHIB is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, meaning it relies on Ethereum’s blockchain and smart-contract infrastructure rather than operating its own independent base chain. It was created in July 2020 by an anonymous founder known as “Ryoshi.”

Unlike Ethereum’s native ETH, SHIB is a token: transfers and interactions occur as Ethereum transactions, and users pay network fees in ETH.

## Tokenomics and Burns

Exactly 1 quadrillion SHIB was created at launch. The contract has no mint function, so no new SHIB can be created; supply can only decrease when tokens are sent to inaccessible “burn” addresses.

As of late October 2026, CoinGecko reported roughly 589.24 trillion SHIB in circulation, with a market capitalization of about $2.9 billion. [2]

| Metric | Figure |

|---|---|

| Original supply | 1 quadrillion SHIB [3] |

| Circulating supply | About 589.24 trillion SHIB [2] |

| Market cap | About $2.9 billion [2] |

| Blockchain | Ethereum (ERC-20) [2] |

“Burning” permanently removes SHIB from circulation. The largest burn came in May 2021, when Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin sent about 410.24 trillion SHIB to a dead address; later community and Shibarium-related burns have been much smaller by comparison. [4]

## The Shiba Inu Ecosystem

SHIB is the main token in a broader ecosystem that also includes LEASH and BONE. The project describes SHIB as a decentralized, community-led currency, while BONE functions as the gas token for Shibarium and LEASH is positioned as a more exclusive ecosystem asset.

Shibarium is Shiba Inu’s Layer-2 network, designed to process transactions away from Ethereum mainnet and reduce costs. It uses proof-of-stake validation, with participants staking BONE to help secure the network.

ShibaSwap is the ecosystem’s decentralized exchange, where users can trade tokens, provide liquidity, stake assets, and participate in token-burning mechanisms.

## Price and Market Context

SHIB’s price is extremely small per token because its circulating supply is measured in the hundreds of trillions. On October 28, 2026, it traded around $0.0000049, down about 2% over the previous week, according to CoinGecko data.

Because supply is so large, even a price of $1 per SHIB would imply a market capitalization of roughly $589 trillion—far larger than the entire global economy—making such price targets unrealistic without an extraordinary reduction in supply. [3]

## Why People Follow SHIB

SHIB attracted attention through its meme appeal, low nominal price, active “Shiba Army” community, and rapid listings across major exchanges. The project has attempted to broaden its use case beyond speculation through DeFi products, Shibarium, and burn initiatives.

However, it remains a meme coin: its valuation depends heavily on community attention, market sentiment, and speculative demand rather than cash flows or traditional fundamentals.

## Risks to Know

- High volatility: SHIB has a history of sharp rallies and steep drawdowns.

- Sentiment-driven valuation: Meme-coin prices can fall quickly when attention fades.

- Large supply: The enormous token supply limits the effect of small burns on price.

- Ecosystem and bridge risk: Shibarium’s SHIB bridge route was reported closed after a September 2025 exploit, affecting some burn and bridging functions.

- Regulatory uncertainty: Crypto rules differ by jurisdiction and may change.
