Fundamental analysis: BTC vs Gold in war

1. Safe-haven behavior. In the 2026 test, Bitcoin acted more like a risk asset. One analysis found that it sold off like a risk asset, not a safe haven, and moved with stocks and against gold. Another source says gold, the dollar and oil protect against geopolitical risk more reliably than bitcoin and Ethereum.

2. Gold was not clean either. Gold initially benefited from safe-haven demand but later declined as the US dollar strengthened and bond yields rose. Its volatility also jumped: 30-day realised volatility briefly topped 44% in early 2026, the highest since 2008. It later returned to yearly highs after the January plunge.

3. Where sources disagree. One outlet reported that Bitcoin rose about 7–10% since the war began while gold stayed flat or declined. Others show Bitcoin far below its peak. It peaked above $126,000 in October 2025 and was hovering around $64,900, nearly half its October peak at the time of that article. The results depend on the start date and the window measured, so treat any single “winner” claim with caution.

4. Fundamentals that don’t change with the news:

Supply: Bitcoin is capped at 21M. Gold supply grows slowly through mining.

Track record: Gold has thousands of years of trust. Bitcoin has about 17 years and few wars.

Demand: Gold has central banks and jewelry demand behind it. Bitcoin relies on ETFs, funds and retail flows.

Portability and access: Bitcoin trades 24/7 and moves anywhere. Gold is heavy and costly to move across borders.

5. Verdict. In wartime, gold has the stronger record as a store of value. Bitcoin offers more upside but sells off hard when markets are in panic. Many investors hold both, sized according to their risk tolerance.

Notes:

I left exact live prices off the image. Search results gave undated or conflicting figures, and they would be out of date soon anyway. If you want, I can add today’s prices once you confirm them.
