Chainalysis says a task scammer lost more than 60 BTC, worth about $4.8 million, in the Ledger thefts. The scam tricked victims into adding personal funds after a fake negative balance appeared. The scammer moved the proceeds into three Ledger addresses on September 22, and thieves emptied the addresses on October 9. The Financial Times reports that criminals stole approximately $90 million in digital assets from cryptocurrency wallets last week by tampering with hardware wallets. Ledger said organized criminals installed concealed components in genuine devices to capture recovery phrases during setup.
