MSCI has finalized new eligibility rules that could remove Bitcoin treasury companies such as #Strategy and Metaplanet from its global equity indexes. The change targets companies classified as non-operating, using an initial test of operating assets followed, where needed, by five financial ratios. A company flagged on at least four of those ratios may be ineligible.

The final list of affected companies is scheduled for November 11, with the new rules taking effect after the November 30 market close. Existing index members must fail the screen across two annual reporting periods before removal. An exclusion would require affected index-tracking funds to adjust their stock holdings, but would not itself require the companies to sell $BTC .

The decision changes how passive equity funds may hold #Bitcoin treasury businesses. Strategy’s removal is not yet final.
