In short: Hot inflation data pushed BTC under $80K. The Fed gave no clear signal. October looks calm, but December is the real risk.

What Happened

PPI, a measure of wholesale prices, hit 6.3% year over year, the hottest in more than four years. About 85 minutes after the release, BTC touched $79,676 on Coinbase, then recovered. The day before, CPI came in at 3.7% against a 3.6% forecast. CoinShares reported $434M of outflows from crypto funds that week.

What the Fed Said

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh gave no clear signal on the next rate move. After his speech, traders cut the odds of an October hike from above 25% to about 15%.

  • Current rate: 3.75% to 4.00%

  • October 28: markets price a hold at about 85%

  • December 9: markets price a hike at roughly 76% to 80%

  • In September's projections, 16 of 18 officials saw at least one more hike this year

Where BTC Sits

BTC is near $81,600 on Binance. The 4-hour range this week is about $79,800 to $84,350. Price sits below the main moving averages (around $82,000 to $82,600), so this looks like a nervous range, not a trend.

What to Watch

  1. The October 28 Fed decision, especially Warsh's comments on December

  2. The next CPI and PPI reports

  3. ETF flows. ETH ETFs snapped a 10-day outflow streak on October 13, but one day is not a trend.

The Honest Take

Right now macro drives crypto more than crypto's own news. Nobody can say what happens by December, because it depends on data that doesn't exist yet. Watch the $79.8K to $84.4K range. A clean close above or below it will say more than any prediction.
