Firmus, an Australian AI data center operator that Nvidia backed in an August 2026 funding round, cancelled its planned $5B IPO this month and blamed market volatility. It landed in the same week OpenAI's revenue report hit chip stocks.
My first reaction was to short Nvidia stock right away. Then I checked the tape: NVDA closed near $230 on October 8 and held close to that level on October 9. The Firmus news looked like a funding setback for one neocloud customer, not a cut to Nvidia's guidance.
What I watch now is whether other neoclouds can still raise money, because they buy a lot of the chips. If that funding dries up, it matters more than one cancelled IPO.
When I trade these moves, I use the NVDA perp on Bitunix with small size and a stop set first. It's leveraged, liquidation is real, and it isn't share ownership. Could be wrong on the read, but after Nvidia stock closed at $221.30 on October 14, I plan the exit before the headline, not after.
