$BMW offered voluntary redundancy packages to 8,000 employees, but demand was so high that the corporate website crashed on the first day, according to BILD.

The surge in interest is driven by generous severance payouts offering €50,000 for every year of service at the company, with some long-term workers eligible for up to €600,000.

Instead of the planned 8,000 departures, around 40,000 employees now want to leave the automaker.
