Solana is preparing for a major blockchain upgrade called Alpenglow, scheduled to begin around October 21, according to the Solana Foundation.

The upgrade is designed to replace Solana’s existing consensus system, TowerBFT, with new technology aimed at making transactions final much faster. The project targets transaction finality of approximately 150 milliseconds, compared with around 12.8 seconds under the current system.
