Solana completed its staged mainnet slot-time rollout at the start of epoch 1053 on Oct. 9, cutting its target slot time to 200 milliseconds from 400 milliseconds. The Solana Foundation recorded the final reduction on its upgrades page, while Solana Compass said the configuration went live on mainnet-beta shortly after the epoch began and that Anza confirmed activation at about 14:42 UTC.
The change doubles the frequency implied by Solana's prior 400ms slot target. It completes a seven-week sequence of reductions rather than a single network-wide cut.
Epoch 1053 activates Solana’s 200ms slot target
Epoch 1053 began with the network operating under the new 200ms target, according to Solana Compass. Anza's confirmation followed shortly afterward, providing a second report of the mainnet-beta activation.
Slot time is the target interval for block production. At 200ms, the network has approximately five block-production opportunities per second, compared with the cadence implied by the preceding 400ms target.
Four reductions completed the staged rollout
The final activation followed three earlier reductions on mainnet. The target moved to 350ms on Aug. 21, then to 300ms on Aug. 28, before falling to 250ms on Sept. 18, according to the Solana Foundation.
The 200ms setting on Oct. 9 was the fourth successive reduction in that schedule. Each step lowered the slot-time target by 50ms, except for the initial move from the prior 400ms configuration to 350ms.
More block opportunities do not mean proportional capacity
Shorter slots create more frequent block-production opportunities.
That does not mean total network capacity rises proportionally. CoinDesk noted ahead of the final change that each shorter slot carries less computation and data.
For the completed rollout, the result is a change in block-production cadence—not a fivefold increase in throughput—with the 200ms target limiting what can fit in each individual slot.
