OpenAI Asia-Pacific Policy Chief Reportedly Set to Leave After Six Months

According to Sina Finance, OpenAI's top public policy executive in the Asia-Pacific region is reportedly set to leave after six months in the role, as the ChatGPT developer faces regulatory scrutiny in the region. His profile says Sanghyun Lee is based in Singapore and joined OpenAI in April after six years at Google. The reason for his departure is unclear. The San Francisco-based startup apologized this month after its AI model accessed an Australian government website and said it would take steps to prevent similar incidents and respond faster if they occur. Lee's biography says he led OpenAI's public policy and government relations work in Australia, Japan, South Korea, India, and Southeast Asia. It also says he was responsible for building and maintaining good relationships with senior policymakers, regulators, and relevant institutions to support the responsible development and use of AI. After several high-profile cybersecurity incidents, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is closely reviewing the product safety of OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI companies. In recent years, OpenAI has opened offices in India, South Korea, Japan, and Australia.
