U.S. BANKS TAKE LEGAL ACTION OVER CRYPTO BANK CHARTERS The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has sued the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) over its framework allowing crypto and other nontraditional firms to pursue national trust bank charters. The banking group argues the OCC exceeded its authority and could give crypto firms access to federal banking credibility without facing the same regulatory requirements as traditional insured banks. The dispute could directly impact the future of crypto custody, stablecoin infrastructure, payments and digital-asset banking in the U.S. Will U.S. crypto firms gain a permanent seat inside the banking system?
