The US and China agreed to extend their existing trade truce by two months and continue negotiations.

Bloomberg reported on September 23 that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News he and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng had agreed to keep the current trade truce in place for two more months.

It remains unclear whether the extension will lead to a broader trade agreement. Bessent said it is not yet known whether the two sides will reach a new deal or extend the current arrangement again.

The two sides also held further talks the same day focused on artificial intelligence and trade issues. He has led China's key economic negotiations with the US since last year.

Bessent and He also met in New York last weekend. At the time, Bessent said the two sides discussed expanding consultations on AI and ways to notify each other if a shared threat emerges.

China's government, however, has not officially confirmed the details of the AI discussions.
