Alibaba spent 80 billion HKD, all on AI。

US$10.2 billion placed in a share sale—claiming it as the largest scale “first-order follow-on issuance” in Hong Kong’s history. 100% goes to AI infrastructure.

What does this number mean? At the same time, the total market cap of the entire AI+Crypto race track was only about US$15.7 billion. The money Alibaba spent as a single company is almost as much as the entire AI token sector.

But don’t jump to conclusions—this is traditional tech companies investing in AI infrastructure, not directly related to AI tokens. Don’t just see the two letters “AI” and think $TAO is going up.

To be honest, what Alibaba invested in is compute power centers and large-model training—not any on-chain AI project.

Still, there’s an angle to consider: the more AI infrastructure Alibaba invests in, the lower the AI inference cost becomes, and the faster AI Agent applications can be deployed—this is an indirect positive for the intersection of AI+Crypto.

I’ve gone off topic. What do you think—did Alibaba’s move mean bottom-fishing in AI, or taking over at a high level?
