In a strategic move to dominate privacy-focused cryptocurrency mining, Cypherpunk Technologies has activated what the company claims is the planet’s most substantial Zcash mining infrastructure, backed by a $33.33 million equity investment from Winklevoss Capital, the investment firm operated by twin entrepreneurs Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

Trading on Nasdaq under the symbol CYPH, the company made the announcement public on Tuesday. The mining infrastructure is currently operational at multiple locations throughout the United States.
The deployment delivers approximately 4.2 gigasols per second of Equihash computing power. This positions Cypherpunk with authority over roughly 18% of the Zcash blockchain’s aggregate hashrate.
Winklevoss Capital provided financing for the mining hardware through an equity-structured agreement. The arrangement additionally includes the appointment of Kevin Zhang, an experienced mining sector professional, as Cypherpunk’s head of mining operations.
According to company statements, its mining division now has potential access to an annual market opportunity exceeding $250 million based on prevailing ZEC valuations.
Strategic Accumulation Target Set at 5% of Total Supply
The company’s current treasury contains 323,394 ZEC tokens, representing approximately 1.92% of the digital asset’s available circulation. Management has established an ambitious objective of eventually controlling 5% of Zcash’s entire token supply.
Revenue generated from mining activities is projected to support this accumulation strategy. Chief Investment Officer Will McEvoy stated that the continuous ZEC production from mining provides the organization with strategic flexibility to expand its token holdings while simultaneously investing in privacy technology development.
The company has positioned Zcash mining as offering superior economics compared to Bitcoin mining operations or artificial intelligence data center investments under present market dynamics. However, profitability remains contingent on ZEC market price fluctuations, network difficulty adjustments, and operational expenditures.
Zcash has experienced remarkable appreciation exceeding 1,300% throughout the preceding twelve months, fueled in part by resurgent enthusiasm for privacy-centric digital currencies during late 2025.
Critical Ironwood Network Upgrade Addressed Security Vulnerability
During the early months of this year, a security researcher working with Shielded Labs identified a serious vulnerability within Zcash’s Orchard shielded transaction pool. The weakness involved a zero-knowledge cryptographic circuit that potentially enabled malicious actors to generate fraudulent ZEC tokens without network detection.
While no evidence emerged suggesting active exploitation of the vulnerability, the disclosure triggered a dramatic ZEC price decline exceeding 50%, with Cypherpunk’s stock simultaneously plummeting approximately 40%.
Network developers responded with an emergency security patch released in early June. Subsequently, in July, the Zcash blockchain successfully implemented the Ironwood upgrade, which comprehensively replaced the compromised Orchard pool with a redesigned shielded transaction framework.
Cypherpunk emphasized that its expanding hashrate contribution simultaneously enhances the overall security and resilience of the Zcash network. The company contends that a more robust and secure network infrastructure directly increases the value of its substantial ZEC holdings.
Investors now gain simultaneous exposure to both Cypherpunk’s significant Zcash treasury reserves and its operational mining revenue streams through the company’s shares.
