In light of the severe global economic fluctuations, especially those related to the sustainability of energy sources, which are characterized by an unprecedented nature in the twenty-first century, driven by the growth of geopolitical conflicts, economic competition, and trade wars between major powers, deep and violent transformations are emerging that differ in their nature and severity from previous historical economic crises. In this context, estimates are increasing that suggest the global economy will enter a stage of stagflation. It seems that the gap in the problem of the current energy supply crisis is widening in light of the escalation of the military conflict in the region between the United States and its ally Israel on the one hand, and Iran on the other hand, which has contributed to doubly complicating the scene. This is clearly evident in Iran’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping traffic. In this context, the geo-economic importance of the Strait of Hormuz is highlighted as it is one of the most important global sea lanes for securing energy supplies, as about 17-20 million barrels pass through it. Oil, equivalent to approximately 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, especially destined for East Asian economies. Based on this, and in light of the rapid fluctuations that characterize the global economic system, fears are increasing about the possibility of the global economy entering a stage of stagflation, the depth and effects of which may exceed the global financial crisis that struck the world in mid-2008 and the emerging coronavirus pandemic of 2020, and may be characterized by a higher degree of cruelty and complexity. Protectionist trade measures and high mutual tariffs have also contributed to increasing pressure on global markets, as well as exacerbating the global debt crisis estimated at about $350 trillion, which adds more complexity to the international economic scene. In this context, the potential repercussions are not limited to energy markets only, but extend to include global supply chains, especially those related to fertilizers and basic biochemical products, which increases the complexity of supply chains and causes disruptions in commodity markets. In this context, the importance of fertilizers is highlighted as a vital component of agricultural production, as any disruption in their flow may lead to a decline in food production globally, threatening the occurrence of a global food crisis, especially in the most fragile countries. The importance of these chains also goes beyond agricultural materials to include other strategic resources, most notably helium gas and refined chemicals, which are essential elements in many vital industries. Helium gas is used in advanced fields such as medical industries, semiconductors, and space technologies, making it a rare and vital resource for the global economy. As for refined chemicals, they are used in the production of fertilizers, petrochemicals, and basic industrial materials, and they form a major pillar in global production chains. Therefore, any disruption in the supply of these materials may lead to the disruption of large industrial and agricultural sectors, and increase the intensity of inflationary pressures. Estimates are also increasing that oil prices may rise to levels that may reach $200 per barrel, in addition to the rise in the prices of processing chemicals, which would exacerbate inflationary pressures at the global level. If this coincides with a slowdown in economic growth, the global economy may find itself facing a state of “stagflation,” which is a complex economic condition that combines high inflation rates and weak or contracting growth, which limits the effectiveness of traditional economic policies and makes it difficult to address them. These complex economic interconnections contribute It creates an increasing state of anxiety and uncertainty among investors about the path of the global economy, and also increases the possibility of a widespread economic downturn, the effects of which may extend beyond the borders of countries’ economies, threatening the social and livelihood stability of millions of people around the world. In the face of these challenges, the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is highlighted as one of the main actors in enhancing global energy security and alleviating supply chain disruptions, through its long-term strategic investments, most notably the East-West Pipeline, which was developed through investments spanning about fifty years. This pipeline has become an essential pillar in the energy transmission system, as its maximum capacity reaches about 7 million barrels per day, and extends over a distance of approximately 1,200 kilometers, allowing the transportation of oil from the eastern region to... Red Sea ports, bypassing sensitive sea lanes, most notably the Strait of Hormuz. This gives the Kingdom a high strategic ability to ensure the continuity of the flow of oil supplies to global markets, especially in times of crises and geopolitical tensions. It also contributes directly to enhancing the stability of global energy markets and reducing their fluctuations.
