The Ivory Coast national team has successfully won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Championship by beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final, marking their third championship victory after triumphs in 1992, 2015, and now 2024.
Despite Nigeria having won the trophy three times previously and taking the lead through William Troost-Ekong in the 38th minute, the hosts of the tournament fought back and equalized through Franck Kessié in the 62nd minute. They then secured the winning goal in the 81st minute, with Sébastien Haller as the scorer.
Ivory Coast faced challenges at the start of the tournament, finishing third in Group A before advancing to the Knockout Stage. They went on to defeat Senegal on penalties in the Round of 16, overcome Mali in the Quarter Finals, and emerge victorious against DR Congo in the Semi-Finals.
