Binance Conducts a Virtual Law Enforcement Training for Cambodian Ministry of Interior Officers

2023-06-02

Binance, the global blockchain ecosystem behind the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, conducted a virtual law enforcement training for the Ministry of Interior officers from Cambodia as part of its Global Law Enforcement Training Program.

Various topics were covered during the session. Carlos Mak, Specialist from the Binance Investigations team, shared the techniques that Binance uses for its investigations in the crypto space. He also spoke about the Investigations team’s collaborative work with global law enforcement agencies to prevent cybercrimes.

“To further enhance the capabilities of our officers on cybercrime investigation, we are happy to have the specialist from Binance provide us with advanced cryptocurrency tracing training and case study sharing. By strengthening our partnership with Binance, we hope to fight against crimes in the digital world more effectively. We look forward to more collaboration with Binance and its Investigations team,” a representative from the IT Department of the Cambodian Ministry of Interior said.

In 2022, the Binance Investigations team responded to more than 40,000 law enforcement requests, with an average response speed of three days. Law enforcement agencies from more than 80 countries have worked with the Investigations team. Additionally, the team organized over 70 anti-cybercrime workshops for global investigators and law enforcement agencies throughout 2022, and they have conducted more than 50 in-person and remote trainings in 2023 so far.

“Many members of our Investigations team possess experience in law enforcement, which gives us an understanding of the considerable time and effort required to learn new investigative techniques. By conducting these training sessions, we aim to significantly alleviate the time and resource constraints faced by law enforcement agencies. Binance is committed to collaborating with agencies such as Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior to remove malicious actors from the crypto space, ultimately building a safer blockchain ecosystem,” said Carlos Mak.

This training for the Cambodian Ministry of Interior officers is the latest in Binance’s ongoing efforts to fight blockchain crime. Recently, the Investigations team led a virtual knowledge sharing with the Mongolia National Police Agency. They also supported a Virtual Asset Investigation Course (VAIC) conducted by the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF). Additionally, partnered with the HKPF once again, the Investigations team ran a joint anti-scam campaign. Finally, in the Philippines, they partnered with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) to share expertise and insights in preventing cybercrime using blockchain forensics.

These are just some initiatives the Investigations team at Binance does to identify and prevent cryptocurrency crimes. Ultimately, the work they do helps create a safer ecosystem for all.
