Sometimes, the market doesn’t need an overwhelming quarter to react strongly—just a forecast that changes the story from here onward.
What happened: Super Micro Computer released its fiscal fourth-quarter results after Tuesday’s close, reporting adjusted earnings of $1.70 per share, above expectations of $1.59, even with revenue of $11.12 billion slightly below the $11.55 billion analysts had projected.
The bigger change came from guidance: for the current quarter, Super Micro forecast revenue between $14.5 billion and $15.5 billion and adjusted earnings of $1.01 to $1.10 per share—both well above consensus estimates of about $12 billion and $0.74.
For fiscal year 2027, the company projected annual revenue between $65 billion and $72 billion, far above analysts’ average of $52.5 billion. Shares jumped 8–9% in after-hours trading.
💡 WHY THIS MATTERS:
Super Micro had been trading near the low end of its 52-week range before this release. Upside guidance at that level is a meaningful shift in tone.
The company points to continued rising demand for its AI-optimized server systems with liquid cooling, aligned with broader signals that large technology companies
are not slowing spending on AI infrastructure—adding up the sector’s capital expenditures, the forecast is that they will exceed $730 billion this year.
At the same time, Super Micro’s own earnings track record has been uneven: revenue only beat estimates in two of its last eight quarters before this one, which is a useful reminder that one strong guidance doesn’t erase a history of volatility.
